The Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway is a high-speed railway linking Gansu Province and Chongqing City. The line is going north-south, which is a new high-capacity transportation channel with equal emphasis on passengers and goods between the Northwest and Southwest regions planned for China's medium and long-term railway network. It is the third main railway artery running through China's north and south. In August 2014, the Gaonan branch line of Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway was opened; in January 2015, the northern-Weituo section of Chongqing was put into operation; in December 2015, the northern-Guangyuan section of Chongqing was officially put into operation; in December 2016, the Minxian-Guangyuan section of Gansu Province was opened; and on September 29, 2017, the Minxian-Xiaguanying section was opened, which marked the formal opening and operation of the entire Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway. Lanzhou Railway Station in the north, Chongqing North Railway Station in the south, crossing Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan and Chongqing provinces, one city and 22 cities and counties (districts), the main line is 886 km long, the proportion of bridges and tunnels in the whole line is 72%. The target speed of designed passenger trains is 160 km per hour, and the reserved speed of conditional sections is 200 km per hour.

technical challenge

Geological environment is complex and special: the construction period of Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway is expected to be 6 years, and the later construction period is delayed for 3 years. The core reason is geological factors. The Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway passes through 10 regional large faults and 87 large faults. The area through which earthquake, flood and debris flow disasters occur frequently is known as the "Geological Museum". The loess plateau area and Qinling high and high mountain area passed by the Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway are located in the edge of the uplift area of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and in the regional geology, they are located at the intersection of the small plates of North China, Yangtze and Qinghai-Tibet (Qaidam, Qiangtang, etc.). The geological environment is extremely complex and special, and the construction is extremely difficult and risky. There are four high-risk tunnels in Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway: Tertiary tunnels with rich water and fine sand, large deformation tunnels with high geostress and soft rock, high gas tunnels and water inrush tunnels with karst mud. Among them, the geology in Gansu Province is the most complex, especially the Tertiary water-rich fine sand stratum geology and high geostress soft rock large deformation geology, which has greatly affected the excavation and excavation of tunnels. The difficulty of design and construction is not only a huge technical challenge, but also a huge pressure on safety, and also brings risks on the construction period.

Value Significance:

Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway is a new high-capacity transportation channel between the Northwest and the Southwest of China in the "Medium-and Long-term Railway Network Planning" and an important part of China's railway network. Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway links Lanxin, Baolan, Lanqing and Longhai Railways in the north, forming fast-track routes to the north of Chongqing and Sichuan, and accelerating the integration of Southwest China into the Silk Road Economic Zone; in the middle, Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway links Baocheng, Xicheng, Dacheng, Xiangyu Railway, and through Baocheng, Chengkun, Suiyu Railway links Chongqing and Yunnan, Sichuan Province. Yuhuai Railway and Shanghai-Hanrong Railway to the East have opened up the transportation channels for northwest and southwest areas to merge into the Yangtze River Economic Belt; Yugui Railway to the South has formed the main line of Lanzhou-Guangzhou North-South Railway, which has become a new channel for Western China to connect coastal areas and integrate into the 21st century Marine Silk Road.

The construction and opening of Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway can not only strengthen and improve the structure of railway transportation network in Western China, greatly shorten the transportation distance and travel time between northwest and southwest regions, but also greatly improve the traffic location of Lanzhou, Longnan, Guangyuan, Nanchong and Chongqing, so that the areas along the railway can be connected with northwest, southwest, East and East China. South China is more closely linked, forming an excellent transportation environment of "smoother north-south contact, convenient east-climb-west connection and extensive transportation".

Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway is also a long trunk line for precise poverty alleviation. There are more than ten key counties in Liupanshan and Qinba Mountains in 22 counties and cities along the railway. With the opening and operation of the whole line, the rich agricultural and animal husbandry resources, non-ferrous metals resources and coal and mineral resources along the line have cheap and fast railway transportation channels, thus speeding up the economic development of the areas along the line and speeding up the people along the line to get rid of poverty and become rich.
